40 Gile Road was built in 1804. The original parcel of land was acquired
by Jonathan Gile in 1782. 100 acres was purchased for 180 British Pounds.
Held in the Gile Family for over a century, 40 Gile Road was an active
farm until the early 1900s. After selling the farm, members of the Gile
Family moved west. Then in 2001 Jonathan Gile's great, great, great
grandson John L. Gile rediscovered the family homestead and with the help
of friends and family, acquired the home in November 2003. The house has
been opened to the public with the understanding that such a beautiful
home and property should be enjoyed by many.
Remnants of the original granite barn are still on the property. There
is a well stocked library in the home with area history and hundreds of
old and new books.
The original 1804 floor plan still exists. It has been complemented by
an addition in 1880, and another addition in 1970.
There are 7 Bedrooms and 3 and one half bathrooms available in the house.
It is perfect for family holidays, group meetings, or quiet getaways.
There is ample parking for 10 cars with two indoor garage parking spaces.
There is a swimming pool and sun room on the property which is available
from June-September.
